The Camarilla And Live Roleplay

We play as part of The Camarilla’s global World of Darkness chronicle. It’s an interactive, ongoing setting that uses roleplaying books published by White Wolf as the source material. The local game is just a small part of a huge chronicle. There are hundreds of domain games in the United States, as well as around the world, and they’re all linked into the same story. Any character you create is part of that chronicle, able to interact with other characters around the world and to involve themselves in stories and plots that can have a local, regional, national or even global scale.

What Is The Camarilla?

The Camarilla is White Wolf Publishing’s official fan club, and it’s primarily involved in operating the global chronicle in which its members play. The current chronicle has been running since 2005, and from the local Beaumont game upwards all of its events are interlinked into one overarching story.

In addition to the US side of things, the Camarilla has affiliates in Australia, Brazil, Ireland, Italy and the Low Countries, plus a number of Global Independent Regions (GIRs) to give a support structure to players outside those affiliates. All are part of the same storytelling structure, and a player can take a character they play in the local game and visit, for example, a game in Rome, Italy with the same character.

As an organization The Camarilla also does loads of charity work, giving tens of thousands of dollars to charitable causes every year. Many members get involved in helping out with this side of things.

The World Of Darkness

The Camarilla’s chronicle exists in a setting called the World of Darkness (WoD). We all tell our stories in this setting. Games are offered in several different venues; Vampire, Werewolf, Mage and Changeling are the most common. While characters from the different venues rarely interact directly, actions taken in one venue impact the setting as a whole.

The World of Darkness setting is a place pretty much like our own world. It has the same history, culture, geography and (most of the time) current events. Barack Obama is President in the World of Darkness, just as he is in real life.

The difference is that this is a more unpleasant, darker world. Horrors and nightmares that are just stories in the real world are true in the World of Darkness. Most people in the world still think they’re just stories, but the supernatural is real, and underneath the veneer of normality there are darker currents and shadows of things hidden.

How To Get Started

Getting started and playing in the World of Darkness is easy. All you have to do is turn up and either create a character concept, or get a pre-generated character. Our players are helpful and welcoming, and they’ll always take the time to help you out as you get started. It will probably make things easier if you drop an email to either the Domain Coordinator or the game Storyteller before you come, so they can make it as easiest as possible for you to come along and get involved immediately.

New players get a trial membership of The Camarilla for three months. After that it’s just $20 a year for a full membership. Our games are usually free, or have a nominal site fee of a couple of dollars.

Oh, and you have to be 18 years old to join and play. The nature of the World of Darkness setting means that sometimes our roleplay explores mature themes.

Silent Redemption – The Beaumont Texas Game

We’re a sanctioned domain of The Camarilla’s global live-action roleplay chronicle. We’re a group of roleplayers of all ages and backgrounds who regularly portray characters in the various venues of White Wolf’s World of Darkness, both at our local games in Beaumont and at other games and conventions around Texas, the United States and internationally.

Our group meets every other Saturday – our Schedule page has information about our forthcoming games. We’re open to anyone over 18, whether you’re an experienced roleplayer or have never tried it before. Our group is open and welcoming, and as well as our regular gaming we also meet socially and do charitable work.
